What actually *is* Career Coaching?
Let’s get technical for a minute. The actual definition of career coaching is, a process by which a qualified career development practitioner works cooperatively with you to help guide you through the process of defining professional goals and developing a strategy/ies to achieve them.
At Impressability, YOU are in the driver’s seat. Our coaching sessions are largely led by you because it’s important that what you need is at the core of what we do and how we do it. We don’t try to fit you into a ready made career program (although if that suits you, we have those too), we listen and then we co-develop our approach so you know what you’re in for!
How can we help?
Career Maintenance: a regular 30 minute chat (coffee optional) to talk through your regular work stress, any issues that have cropped up and any specific things you’d like feedback on. It’s a great way to talk about work (and vent if needed!) with someone who isn’t emotionally invested in your career choices like a spouse or family member.
Career Change: looking for the next step? We can help you figure out what that might look like and then help you build a plan to achieve it.
Promotion: perhaps you’re keen on progression? Looking at how that pathway might look, what training you may need and how to go about the process is plum in our wheelhouse.
Leadership Support: feel like you’d like to work on your leadership skills? Perhaps you’re in a leadership role now and are struggling with a staff member? We can help you work it out.
Interview Coaching: interviews don’t have to be scary! Not only can we help you prepare and practice, but we have an interview “system” that can help you succeed on the day (check out our shop to learn more).
Careers Education: would you rather learn how to write your resume or selection criteria responses etc., yourself? Book in a coaching session and we’ll spill the beans, walking you through step by step.
Is Career Counselling different?
Career Counselling is a little different to Coaching. Coaching is more about goal setting, forward planning and action, whereas Counselling is more about careers exploration, unpacking your experience, and identifying strengths and areas of challenge. You can think about Careers Coaching as empowering action, and Careers Counselling as providing clarity and direction.
Here at Impressability, we have the skills to bring in elements of both into the session, based on the needs of the client - you don’t have to decide which way you want to go before the session. We have structured counselling programs that also incorporates coaching, and we have experience in working around the client’s specific needs to tailor the session accordingly.
How can Career Counselling help?
Understand and manage the changes in your career such as promotions and added responsibility, or redundancies, dismissal or performance management;
Identify opportunities for professional development and growth;
Build positive relationships with your boss and colleagues – to achieve this, you need to have a positive relationship with yourself and career counselling can help you with this;
Help you understand what your strengths and weaknesses are to solidify your position within your company; and
Keep in touch with how you are coping with work and provide you with a subjective support person to help you manage the demands of your career.
