Meet Zoë...
Zoë genuinely loves what she does. And it shows in the work that she produces.
Starting out working in the public sector, Zoë accrued experience in personnel and payroll administration, contract administration and management, and then 'fell into' recruitment in the private sector (an area that she had always felt drawn to), before starting Impressability, a boutique career development business, in 2008.
My favourite part of my job is the wide range of people that I meet and the shoes I get to borrow and stand in for a moment as I imagine my clients’ roles and wordsmith them onto paper.
Since starting Impressability, Zoë has had the privilege of working with a wide range of clients from global CEOs, high level government officials, and celebrity athletes, to teachers, tradespeople, and 15yo kids going for their first job at Maccas, and each client experience has added to her repertoire of skills, knowledge and expertise that informs her practice.
Never one to sit idle, Zoë is known (affectionately, she hopes!) as someone who is always on the go - developing new products and services, writing new programs, painting a new lightbulb on her office wall, and finding new ways to support and engage with clients. Therefore, it came as no surprise when she was recently diagnosed with ADHD! This lived experience has launched a thousand new ideas (oh the irony) for supporting others who are also neurodivergent and all the different ways that can manifest (check out the new shop to see what she has come up with!).
Zoë understands that it can feel a little nerve-wracking coming to a first session, but she takes extra care to make sure the sessions are light-hearted, and she has even been told upon occasion that they can be fun as well! She welcomes the opportunity to talk to clients on the phone before they come in so they can become a little more familiar with what to expect.
Advocacy
In addition to advocating for clients in their careers through disciplinary processes and performance management experiences, Zoë writes a weekly column for The Canberra Times, syndicated nationally across the Australian Community Media newspapers including The Newcastle Herald and the Border Mail, writing on topics relating to employment, unemployment, and public policy. She leverages her weekly column to amplify the voices of those so often silenced in public policy debates.
In the Media & Recognition
Zoë has been regularly interviewed on 2CC radio (Canberra) in relation to her advocacy work and she was the inaugural recipient of the Opinion Piece of the Year award in the 2019 Victorian Homelessness Media Awards. Zoë has also been featured in Marie Claire magazine, Flying Solo and Mouths of Mums. Previously, Zoë has also received the Highly Commended Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Albury Business Awards.
